From the household notebook

“Neem ki datun karo roz subah! Humari generation ke logon ke daant 80 saal tak mazboot the — koi dentist nahi gaye kabhi. Aaj kal ke toothpaste mein chemical hain — neem natural antiseptic hai!”

Dadima’s tip: Fresh datun roz naya lena — kal wala mat use karo. Neem ka juice thoda kadwa lagega par wahi toh kaam karta hai. Ek hafte mein muh ki badboo gayab!

How to make it

Preparation

  1. Using fresh neem datun:
  2. Select a fresh, green neem twig — should be flexible, not dry
  3. Wash thoroughly under running water
  4. Chew one end gently until fibers separate into brush-like bristles
  5. Use these bristles to brush teeth and gums — outer, inner, and chewing surfaces
  6. Chew on the stick slowly — let neem juice contact gums
  7. Brush for 3-5 minutes
  8. Rinse mouth with water, spit out fibers
  9. Discard after single use
  10. Alternative (neem tooth powder):
  11. Wet toothbrush, dip in neem tooth powder
  12. Brush normally for 2-3 minutes
  13. Rinse well

Once daily, morning. Can be used alongside regular toothbrush — datun as supplement, not replacement for brushing.

When not to use

Not a complete replacement for toothbrush and flossing in modern dentistry — use as supplement. If neem twigs unavailable, use neem tooth powder.
